Haslemere Museum plays host to a remarkable exhibition this month by local artist and Museum Patron Roger Dellar ROI, PS, RI. His collection of works features recent paintings many of which are of local scenes or painted on location both in the UK and overseas.
Roger Dellar is a successful professional artist and works from his studio in Surrey. He has a keen interest in people and their behaviour, and is fascinated by the way the play of light transforms a subject; either working in the studio or plein air. His favourite subjects are Portraits, People in their Environments, and capturing the effects of light and atmosphere.
He is a member of the Royal Institute of Oil Painters (ROI), Royal Institute of Painters in Watercolour (RI) and The Pastel Society (PS). He is also a member of the highly prestigious group of painters called the Wapping Group. During his career, Roger has won many awards including the RI Llewellyn Alexander Award, numerous ROI awards and Pastel Society awards amongst others.
Roger is a contributor of articles to The Artist and Artist & Illustrator magazines and continues to exhibit his work in a number of top galleries throughout the UK. He is also a popular tutor and demonstrator with many years’ experience of teaching adults both here and internationally.
The exhibition runs at the Haslemere Museum from 18th to 25th February and throughout the week, Roger will be ‘in situ’ – a unique opportunity to watch him painting in the Museum galleries.
Julia Tanner, Museum Curator said,: “We are delighted to be hosting this special exhibition with one of our Patrons. Not only is it a fabulous opportunity to view Roger’s award winning artwork but also a chance to observe a professional artist at work. We are very grateful to Roger for undertaking this wonderful exposition and art demonstration.”
