Chamber and Town Council are combining forces in a bid to ensure the people and businesses of Haslemere have another first class Christmas this year.
Both organisations are investing time and money to give the town a Festive Season that is both memorable and profitable. But with limited resources, they are hoping that local entrepreneurs and residents will – as in previous years – come forward with financial and physical support.
Mayor Sahran Abeysundara and Chamber President David Goddin are jointly appealing for donations and volunteers to help deliver a Christmas programme that contains new elements and greater coverage.
David Goddin says: “Apart from their festive appeal, the lights and related activities are aimed to encourage spending in Haslemere. This is in line with the Chamber’s aim of supporting local business.
“The Christmas lights also benefit non-member businesses – we hope that many of these will acknowledge this by donating at least £50.”
The public programme kicks off with an all-new Christmas lights switch-on for the town centre and Wey Hill at 18:00 on Friday 25 November. It is hoped that retailers will stay open late on that occasion to add to the atmosphere – and that shoppers will make good use of the opportunity.
Also new for 2016 will be Christmas lights for Hindhead and Beacon Hill, which will be officially launched on Sunday 27 November.
Another new development will be an illuminated Christmas Tree on Lion Green, where the annual town Christmas carols event takes place on 17 December.
Volunteers are needed especially to assist with arrangements and public safety at the town centre Christmas lights switch-on (17:30 to 19:00) and the carols event (17:00 to 19:00). Volunteers are asked to register in advance either by emailing the Mayor’s secretary, Tessa Wright, on admin@haslemeretc.org or by telephoning her on 01428 654305 (Monday/Wednesday/Friday).
People wishing to make a donation towards the costs of the Christmas lights should make a BACS transfer to the Chamber’s account (sort code 60-10-14 account number 87026961) with the surname or company name + Christmas as reference.
- Volunteers are also needed for the Haslemere Christmas Market on Sunday 4 December. Contact events@haslemere.com or ring 01428 644858
