Holy Cross Hospital in Haslemere has held its annual prize-giving celebration to give thanks and recognition to members of staff who have successfully completed a course of study during the past year.
His Honour Christopher Critchlow DL, High Sheriff of Surrey attended the event on 29 September and presented more than a dozen certificates and prizes to learners from across the hospital.
Interim Chief Executive, Chris Hinton says: “Holy Cross Hospital is special. Firstly, as a hospital, we are a place that supports health care professionals to deliver care to patients. Secondly, we are a home to patients and the Sisters who founded us and continue to inspire us to achieve high standards. Finally, we are a community – we are in this together and every day, we support each other to challenge the limits to patients’ recovery.
“With just 40 patient beds, we are a small organisation which means everyone has to be a little bit greater to perform their roles. Learning and development is absolutely vital for us to sustain our work.”
His Honour Christopher Critchlow DL handed out prizes to Health Care Assistants (HCA) who had completed a HCA development project and Registered Nurses who took part in an advanced respiratory course.
Other courses completed included intermediate life support, end of life care, mental health first aid and the management of waste and resources. Staff from The Physiotherapy Centre also received prizes for completing a variety of hydrotherapy courses and Pilates Level 2.
As well as the presentation of prizes, guests heard inspirational and insightful talks from the Trainee Nursing Associate Project Lead, the HCA Development Project Tutor and an overseas nurse who has progressed to become a Nursing and Midwifery Council Registered Nurse.
Addressing staff, His Honour Christopher Critchlow DL said: “I can honestly say that for someone like me who has no experience of working in a hospital, this visit has been very humbling. I’ve learnt a lot about the work you do, the demands you face and the skills you need, and I offer my sincere congratulations to you all. The certificates which I have had the pleasure to present are very well deserved and I feel fortunate to have met people like you who work so hard for others. I take my hat off for everything you do.”
