Ramadan (26 My to 24 June) is a very important religious festival for Muslims. During daylight hours many Muslims will fast, only breaking that fast at sundown.
There is no statutory obligation to give staff time off for religious festivals but most employers will do what they can to support their Muslim staff during Ramadan. Many Muslims will wish to pray at midday; prayer times take about 10 minutes in a quiet area.
Our Muslim friends and colleagues are as distressed by the recent terrorist activity as those of other faiths and none.
Ramadan is a good opportunity for employers to show their Muslim staff support and understanding.
