While engineers work on some of Haslemere’s gas mains during the first half of 2018, the Chamber intends to send our a very clear message: The town is open for business as usual.

Southern Gas Networks (SGN) has identified some 11.5km of underground pipes that are due for upgrading to ensure ongoing safety and continuity of supply. The work involves eight locations around the town, but as some of the projects are quite small, it is unlikely that all the sites will be active at the same time.

Fortunately, the plans do not affect the main business areas significantly as there is minimal work on major roads. However, some key secondary routes may see temporary traffic lights for several weeks.

With memories of town centre disruption during previous gas main replacements – and resurfacing of the A286 from Witley to Grayswood – the Chamber wants to ensure that local residents as well as prospective visitors and shoppers are fully informed about the project.

The Chamber will shortly launch a dedicated information page on this website to promote local business. SGN has undertaken to provide weekly updates on plans and progress. We hope to amplify this with other local information, advice on alternative routes, tips on business promotion opportunities and special news about the projects. We welcome contributions, questions and suggestions from members.

NOTE: Scottish and Southern Electricity will be closing Lower Street for an essential cable replacement during the August holiday period.
