Help at hand to get golfers back in the swing after a joint replacement

Help is at hand for golfing enthusiasts who have taken a break from the sport after a joint replacement. The Holy Cross Hospital Physiotherapy Centre in Haslemere is holding a lecture, Back in the swing, on 10 October at 6pm about how to prepare for getting back on the course or driving range and what to expect.

Physiotherapist Ed Carroll who specialises in sport rehabilitation says: “Like all sportsmen and women, golfers feel a big loss when something stops them playing. Returning to golf after a joint replacement certainly is a big challenge but golf is excellent for our fitness and mobility as well as being a great sport – physiotherapy plays a key role in getting people playing again. We have helped many people return to golf and other sports after a joint replacement, so we are looking forward to sharing our knowledge with you.”

The one-hour lecture costs £5 and takes place in St Hugh’s conference centre in the grounds of Holy Cross Hospital where The Physiotherapy Centre is based.

The lecture, led by specialist physiotherapists from the centre, covers what golfers can expect when they start preparing to play again, the journey to reaching previous performance, improving strength and practical examples of beneficial exercises. There will also be an opportunity to ask questions.

To book tickets, contact The Physiotherapy Centre on 01428 647647. The ticket price includes refreshments and all proceeds go to Holy Cross Hospital’s treehouse project which will see a wheelchair accessible wooden platform built in the hospital grounds for patients to use. Back in the swing is the latest in a lecture series offered by The Physiotherapy Centre. A future lecture on running is planned for 2020.
